If you’re interested in creating a new POCA/live event or helping out with the future ones that are already in development, email Nicole. | | Might you have an interest in attending a POCA Tech Alumni Event AKA - PUNK U?
Please fill out this survey so we can get an idea if holding this event in the Fall (Sept 25th and 26th 2020.) makes sense (presuming we are permitted to hold it). With an effort to keep expenses down, we are hoping to make sleeping accommodations available for folks traveling for the event.
There will be many topics of interest for seasoned community acupunks, current students, newly minted punks and those who are simply CA curious.
We will have 14 CEU available for those interested. It will be held at the Rose City Park United Methodist Church in Portland, OR. | | Tusa and Kralowetz earn DACM degrees | Congratulations to POCA punks Lori Tusa (on right) and Jennifer Kralowetz (on left) for completing their Clinical Doctorate program at the Pacific College of Health and Science (formerly PCOM) this spring. The DACM degree is an online program in integrative medicine and research.
Lori Tusa is a punk at the Manchester Acupuncture Studio. Previously, Lori worked with the team at Oakland Acupuncture Project for six years. Jenny Kralowetz is a punk at the Oakland Acupuncture Project.
Great work guys!
| | Planning is starting for a virtual POCAFest in October. Right now the thought is to have 8 CEUs over a two day weekend (but this is still evolving). We want to maximize the number of people who can attend. (Is a weekend the best time to have it? Maybe weekdays would be better. But what weekdays? Hmmmmmm. Virtual world is so different.)
We will need organizers, presenters, help with graphics, etc. Anyone interested in helping can post here or join the Events Circle. | | | Since March, several POCA punks have created and shared short and sweet videos that make up the POCA's DIY Acupressure Series. We have over 20 videos and counting. You can use them to stay connected with your patients by sharing videos on you social media accounts, newsletters and blogs.
If you would like to submit a video, go here for the process.
Congratulations to Justine Meyers from Acupuncture Together for making the most popular video on the DIY Acupressure Series. Her video covers Anxiety, Stress, and Insomnia. It's been viewed almost 1,000 times.

The POCA DIY series has one video in Spanish. If anyone wants to work on either creating new videos in Spanish or other languages, or transcribing what is said in existing videos, contact Zelda.
Logistically from her end there are two possible approaches:
1) If speakers of other languages want to create videos OR recreate ones that are already up if they don't want to come up with new content, but rather just make another language version of any already created.
2) If speakers of other languages want to transcribe any videos, she can add the text to the video description (which shows up on the Vimeo page underneath the video). Adding subtitles unfortunately is a huge time commitment and not currently practical, but copy and pasting the text into the video description is super easy.
| | | It's great to see so many acupuncture companies and organizations offer free CEUs to acupuncturists during the pandemic. In POCA, we continue to do what we have always done – offer eight free CEUs every time punks renew their annual membership. All CEUs are made by and for POCA members.
Have an idea for a course? Talk to Carmen Doerge. There are two new courses: A new course, Harm Reduction and Benzodiazepines, was put together by Elizabeth Ropp. It is approved by NCCAOM (AOM-BIO), the California Acupuncture Board (Category 1) and the Florida Acupuncture Board (Bio) for 3 CEUs.
Treating Toxic Stress with Community Acupuncture is an existing course. It has just gotten approval in Florida, 4 Bio credits.
| | | | There are still spots available in Cohort 7. Please apply with snail mail only. There is no one in the office to sign for packages.
Questions about getting materials to us? Email Carmen at admissions@pocatech.org
